Background
We recently complete the new Flagship store for White Stuff in Edinburgh, working as a Sub Contractor for Thomas Johnstone Ltd. Located at 89 George Street, this prestigious building which since 1903 was home to the much loved Grays Of Edinburgh. We were required to carry out extensive restoration work to many of the buildings period features including beautifully ornate Cornices and highly decorative Columns most of which were badly damaged. We also provided New Cornice work within the Atrium rising throughout the central section of the store. Various plaster repairs were also required to the stores existing Ceilings and Walls.
Approach Taken
This was an exciting project to be involved with from start to finish and, although the completion programme was tight, our staff all pulled together and worked overtime in the evening and at weekends to ensure we finished on time. There were many challenges presented to us on this project whilst restoring many of the Ornate Cornices and also Replicating the buildings badly damaged Decorative Columns. All of these products were reproduced to the exact match of the originals on site by our expert team of craftsmen within our Workshop before finally being carefully fitted on site.
Project Feedback
We have worked with Thomas Johnstone on several Large Projects now over the years including Edinburgh’s famous City Chambers and Supreme Court buildings. Due to the continued quality and professionalism of our staff we are sure that our working relationship with Thomas Johnstone will continue to grow in the future.
“City Crafts were appointed to carry out the Decorative Cornice works at The White Stuff, Edinburgh. Both ourselves and the Client were delighted with their performance and attitude on this project.”
